Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imagePROGRAF TM-240 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You're a small architecture, engineering, or construction firm that prints 50-300 D-size CAD drawings or posters a month and needs 24" wide output.
  • You want a flat, compact desktop unit that fits on a benchtop or short stand — 17.2" tall by 38.5" wide, 88 lb without the stand.
  • You print mostly mono CAD line drawings but occasionally need color for renderings or signage — the 5-color LUCIA TD pigment system (with two blacks plus CMY) handles both.
  • You want a 4.3" adjustable touchscreen for walk-up jobs — the panel tilts so you can read it standing or seated.
  • You're replacing an old iPF670 or HP DesignJet T530 — the TM-240 is the modern entry-level CAD plotter and shares cartridge tech (PFI-030/031) with the rest of the TM series.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 20-50 jobs a month — the printer handles low volume but you'll feel the cartridge cost. The 55 ml tanks are small and the printer can't be upsized to bigger ones (TM-340 takes 130 ml).
  • You want wireless — Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n is standard.
  • You also do occasional color posters — works fine, just don't expect photo-grade output. This is a CAD/poster engine, not a fine-art printer.
  • You're upgrading from a desktop A3 inkjet — operators adapt to the touchscreen quickly.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print more than 500 jobs a month — the small 55/80 ml tanks become a per-page cost problem. Get the TM-340 (36", 130 ml tanks) or TM-350 instead.
  • You need 36" or wider output — this is 24" max. Step up to TM-340 or TM-350.
  • You need photo-quality fine art output — this is a 5-color CAD/poster pigment printer. PRO-2600/4600 is the photo-grade option.
  • You need to scan or copy in-house — this is print-only. The TM-240 MFP L24ei (color image MFP) or MFP Lm24 (mono MFP) variants add a scanner.
  • You can't dedicate a stand or benchtop space — the unit alone is 38.5" wide. Plus you need front clearance for paper output.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imagePROGRAF TM-240 is a 24-inch entry-level large-format CAD and poster printer for small AEC firms, schools, and design studios that need occasional D-size output without a full plotter. It uses a 5-color LUCIA TD pigment ink system (matte black, photo black, cyan, magenta, yellow) at 2400 x 1200 dpi and prints up to 2.4 ppm letter or about 3.2 ppm ARCH D in Fast mode. The flat-body design is the headline feature — at 17.2" tall and 88 lb base, it fits on a benchtop or short stand instead of demanding floor space like older 24" plotters. The 4.3" adjustable touchscreen tilts for walk-up jobs. Roll feed handles 8-24" wide media (max 5.9" outer diameter), cut sheets up to 17" wide, max thickness 0.8 mm. Connectivity is USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Cartridges are PFI-030 (55 ml) and PFI-031 (80 ml MBK only), and they don't go bigger — that's the trade-off for the small chassis. Best for offices doing 50-300 large-format jobs a month. The thing buyers regret: ink. The 55 ml tanks empty fast on color-heavy work. If you're doing more than 300 jobs a month or any color volume, the TM-340 (36", 130 ml tanks) is more cost-effective per page even though it costs more upfront.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Canon machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Got this for our architecture firm's office and it handles large format printing way better than the old inkjet we had. The 24-inch width is perfect for most of our drawings without needing to go full plotter size, and the print quality on technical documents is sharp. Setup took a while but it's been solid for the past year."
  • "Using this for my home-based design business to print samples and proofs. It does what it's supposed to do with good color accuracy, though the ink cartridges aren't cheap. No major complaints but nothing spectacular either—it's a reliable workhorse."
  • "Needed something compact for our small gallery to print posters and signage in-house. The TM-240 fits the space and footprint was really the deciding factor. Print speeds are decent and we haven't had any major reliability issues after 18 months of regular use."

Yes. The MFC-L2759DW ships with a high-yield 4,500-page starter toner cartridge, which is roughly 3 to 6 months of toner for a typical small office. Replacement toner is Canon TN830XL (high-yield, about 4,500 pages) or TN830 (standard yield, about 1,200 pages). When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.

The Canon imagePROGRAF TM-240 is the refreshed version of the MFC-L2750DW with updated firmware, a longer-life drum, and an expanded starter toner yield (4,500 pages versus 3,000). Print speed, automatic 2-sided print and scan, and connectivity are identical. For most small offices the 2759DW is the better long-term value because of the larger included toner.

Yes, for small offices printing under about 2,500 pages per month. It's fast at 36 ppm, handles auto 2-sided print and scan, supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and has a 50-page document feeder for multi-page scans. If you regularly print more than 5,000 pages per month or need color, step up to a commercial-grade multifunction printer — see our commercial printer options.

No. The MFC-L2759DW is monochrome (black and white) only. It cannot print color. If you need color, look at the Brother MFC-L3750CDW or a commercial color multifunction printer like the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX or Konica Minolta bizhub series.

Canon includes a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty on the MFC-L2759DW when purchased new from an authorized reseller. 1-800 Office Solutions is an authorized Canon reseller. Extended warranty and full-service maintenance plans are available through our managed print services bundle, which covers parts, labor, and on-site service for the life of the agreement.

Yes. Free delivery is included on every Canon imagePROGRAF TM-240 order shipped within the continental United States. Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days and arrive within 2 to 5 business days. Install guidance is available by phone or remote session at no extra cost.
