Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C3835i is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a workgroup or department of 15-40 people that needs in-house tabloid (11x17) color output.
  • You print 3,000-10,000 pages a month and want headroom on a Canon iR-ADV chassis.
  • You scan stacks of mixed-size originals daily and need single-pass duplex at 270 ipm to keep up.
  • You already standardize on Canon and want one more device that drops into uniFLOW Online and your existing fleet management.
  • You want enterprise security on a smaller A3 footprint — McAfee Embedded Control, FIPS 140-2 SSD encryption, TLS 1.3, SIEM integration.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 10,000-15,000 pages a month — the chassis handles it, you'll just go through GPR-53 toner faster.
  • You don't need 12x18 — Letter and 11x17 are the daily-use sizes; 12x18 is in the multipurpose tray for occasional jobs.
  • You want finishing — the Inner Finisher-L1, Staple Finisher-AE1, and Booklet Finisher-AE1 bolt on, just plan for the footprint and the extra invoice line.
  • You're upgrading from a Canon iR-ADV C3525i or C3530i — the workflow is nearly identical, plan a week of muscle-memory complaints.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 1,500 pages a month — you're paying for an A3 color enterprise MFP and using maybe 10% of it. Get a desktop imageCLASS MFP instead.
  • You print over 18,000 pages a month — step up to the C5840i or C5850i (5800 series with 6,350-sheet max capacity).
  • You need 50+ ppm color speed — this is the 35 ppm model. Look at the C5850i (50 ppm) or C5870i (70 ppm).
  • You don't have an authorized Canon dealer — GPR-53 toner and uniFLOW configuration go through contract channels, not retail.
  • You need a small footprint — this is a floor-standing A3 unit; the base alone is 22.25 x 28.5 x 35.375 inches and weighs 185 lb.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C3835i is a floor-standing A3 color laser multifunction built for workgroups of 15-40 users that need in-house 11x17 color, heavy scanning, and Canon's enterprise security stack. It's the 35 ppm tier of the C3800 series — same chassis as the C3830i and C3826i, just a faster engine. It prints and copies up to 35 ppm in both black and color (Letter), with a 5.5-second first copy out (black) / 7.4 seconds (color), and scans at 270 ipm duplex via the 200-sheet single-pass DADF. Standard paper capacity is 1,200 sheets across dual 550-sheet cassettes and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray; add the optional Cassette Feeding Unit-AW1 to reach 2,300 sheets. The 10.1-inch color touchscreen runs the full iR-ADV DX workflow — uniFLOW Online dashboard, Hot Folders, scan-to-everything (SMB 3.0, FTP, WebDAV, email, IFAX, Office Open XML), and My ADVANCE personalization. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus Wi-Fi standard. Security is the standard iR-ADV DX stack: McAfee Embedded Control whitelisting, FIPS 140-2 validated SSD encryption, TLS 1.3, IPSec, SIEM integration, Verify System at Startup. The thing buyers regret: paying for an A3 footprint and then never printing 11x17. If 95% of your jobs are letter and you don't have tabloid scanning needs either, look at an A4 desktop MFP like the iR-ADV DX C478iF — half the footprint, half the floor reinforcement.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 7 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Canon machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "We upgraded to this for our office about two years ago and it's been solid. The color output is sharp for our marketing materials, and the scan-to-email feature saves us a ton of time. Toner costs are higher than I'd like but the machine itself is reliable."
  • "Good workhorse for a busy print shop. The finishing options are helpful and speed is decent, though the learning curve on the interface took longer than expected. Support from Canon was helpful when we needed it."
  • "Using this in our small business for about 18 months now. Handles our volume without breaking down, the copier function works great for client docs, and the built-in finishing makes everything look professional."
  • "We replaced our old Xerox with this Canon and the color output is noticeably better. The finishing options are solid for our marketing department's needs, and it's been reliable over the past year without major issues."
  • "Good all-around machine for our office. Prints and copies are fast enough, though the learning curve on the touch panel was steeper than I expected. Support from Canon has been responsive when we needed it."
  • "Handles our high-volume printing without slowing down. The DX model's finisher is exactly what we needed for our client proposals, and paper jams have been minimal."
  • "Solid workhorse for a small print shop. Color accuracy is decent, though toner costs add up quick. Would've preferred easier integration with our existing workflow software."

Yes. The MFC-L2759DW ships with a high-yield 4,500-page starter toner cartridge, which is roughly 3 to 6 months of toner for a typical small office. Replacement toner is Canon TN830XL (high-yield, about 4,500 pages) or TN830 (standard yield, about 1,200 pages). When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C3835i is the refreshed version of the MFC-L2750DW with updated firmware, a longer-life drum, and an expanded starter toner yield (4,500 pages versus 3,000). Print speed, automatic 2-sided print and scan, and connectivity are identical. For most small offices the 2759DW is the better long-term value because of the larger included toner.

Yes, for small offices printing under about 2,500 pages per month. It's fast at 36 ppm, handles auto 2-sided print and scan, supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and has a 50-page document feeder for multi-page scans. If you regularly print more than 5,000 pages per month or need color, step up to a commercial-grade multifunction printer — see our commercial printer options.

No. The MFC-L2759DW is monochrome (black and white) only. It cannot print color. If you need color, look at the Brother MFC-L3750CDW or a commercial color multifunction printer like the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX or Konica Minolta bizhub series.

Canon includes a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty on the MFC-L2759DW when purchased new from an authorized reseller. 1-800 Office Solutions is an authorized Canon reseller. Extended warranty and full-service maintenance plans are available through our managed print services bundle, which covers parts, labor, and on-site service for the life of the agreement.

Yes. Free delivery is included on every Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C3835i order shipped within the continental United States. Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days and arrive within 2 to 5 business days. Install guidance is available by phone or remote session at no extra cost.
