Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Ricoh SP-1130N is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a small office or branch (1-10 people) that needs to scan 50-300 pages a day to a shared folder or email.
  • You want network scanning — gigabit Ethernet means any PC running PaperStream IPNet can drive it, no USB cable per workstation.
  • You have an entry budget but don't want to give up duplex or color — 30 ppm simplex, 60 ipm duplex.
  • You scan plastic ID cards and thick documents up to 0.76 mm (1.24 mm embossed).
  • You want a quiet, compact unit (11.7 x 5.3 x 5.2 inches, 5.5 lb) that fits on a reception desk.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You scan 200-500 pages a day — handles it but you'll burn through the consumable kit (every 100K scans) faster than the spec sheet implies.
  • You only have USB and no Ethernet at the desk — works fine on USB 3.2, you're paying for the LAN port you don't use.
  • You scan letter, legal, and small receipts in mixed batches — ultrasonic multi-feed handles them, the 50-sheet ADF is the real bottleneck.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You scan more than 4,500 sheets a day — get the fi-8150 (8,000/day) or fi-8290 (13,000/day).
  • You need a flatbed for books or fragile originals — get the SP-1425 or fi-8250.
  • You need a touchscreen on the scanner — the SP-1130N has no LCD, just two buttons.
  • You scan A3 / 11x17 — letter is the max.
  • You need acoustic paper protection (iSOP) or Overscan Control — those are fi-8000 series only.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Ricoh SP-1130N is the top of the 2nd-generation SP-series compact scanners — a sheet-fed duplex unit that runs at 30 ppm / 60 ipm color (200/300 dpi) with a 50-sheet ADF and an expected daily volume of 4,500 sheets. It's the small-office and branch workhorse: aimed at the buyer who wants real network scanning, real duplex, real color, but doesn't need fi-8000 capacity or a flatbed. Connectivity is USB 3.2 Gen 1 plus 10/100/1000 Ethernet, and PaperStream IPNet (bundled) lets any PC on the LAN drive the scanner without being plugged in. The scanner reads 50-209 gsm paper plus plastic ID cards up to 0.76 mm (1.24 mm embossed, landscape only) and supports long-page scanning up to 120 inches at 200 dpi. Bundled software: PaperStream IP (TWAIN/ISIS), PaperStream Capture, ABBYY FineReader Sprint, ScanSnap Manager. The thing buyers regret: assuming the older first-gen SP-1130 specs apply — the original was USB-only, slower, and used a different driver stack. The 2nd-gen SP-1130N is the one you want; PA03811-B025 is the SKU. No flatbed, no LCD, no A3, no iSOP.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Ricoh machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Been using this in our small accounting office for about 8 months now. The SP-1130N handles our monthly print volume without any issues, and the toner cartridges last longer than our old Canon. Network printing setup was straightforward."
  • "Good workhorse printer for home office use. Print quality is solid for documents, though I wish the manual had better troubleshooting steps. No major complaints after a year of regular use."
  • "Our nonprofit picked this up for the main office and it's been reliable. Simple to maintain and the mono laser output is clean enough for client-facing documents. Cost per page is better than what we were paying before."
