Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Savin MP 6503 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a high-volume central reprographics, mailroom, or large department printing 15,000-50,000 mono pages a month.
  • You need a single device that does 65 ppm with finishing — staple, hole-punch, booklet, multi-fold all bolt on.
  • You scan high volumes (HR onboarding, claims processing, legal discovery) and want 120/220 ipm duplex on a 300-sheet feeder.
  • You're standardizing a Ricoh/Savin fleet on the Smart Operation Panel UI so users get the same touchscreen on every device.
  • You need a 4,300-sheet standard tray loadout (1,550 x 2 tandem + 550 x 2 trays + 100 bypass) so paper refills stop being a daily task.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 8,000-15,000 pages a month — overbuilt for that volume, but per-page cost on the high-yield toner is competitive.
  • You want booklet making but only occasionally — the SR4130 saddle-stitch finisher does 20-page booklets, but adds $4-6K to the price.
  • You're replacing an older Aficio MP 6002/7502/9002 — same Ricoh DNA, much faster Smart Operation Panel and single-pass scanning.
  • You need Wi-Fi — IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n is an optional interface unit, not standard.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 5,000 pages a month — a 65 ppm production-class device is wildly overspecced. Look at the MP 4055 or MP 5055.
  • You need color. This is mono only — get the MP C4504 or MP C5504.
  • You don't have 27.2 x 31.6 x 45.7 inches of clear floor space (plus 18-30" for finishers) — measure twice, this is a big machine at 441 lb.
  • You want desktop placement — this is floor-standing, no two ways about it.
  • You need a 220V 20A dedicated outlet and don't have one — most US offices will need an electrician before install.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Savin MP 6503 is a floor-standing A3 monochrome production-class multifunction (rebadged Ricoh MP 6503) built for large workgroups, central reprographics, or mailrooms running 15,000-50,000 mono pages a month. It prints and copies up to 65 ppm at 1200 x 1200 dpi, scans at 120 ipm simplex / 220 ipm duplex through a 300-sheet single-pass document feeder, and first-copies in 3.2 seconds. Standard paper capacity is 4,300 sheets across a 1,550-sheet tandem tray, two 550-sheet trays, and a 100-sheet bypass — expandable to 8,300 with the LCIT4040 LCT. The 10.1" Smart Operation Panel is the same Android-style touchscreen Ricoh ships across the MP/IM C lines, so users in a mixed Savin/Ricoh fleet get one consistent UI. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet, USB Type A, and SD card standard; Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n is an optional interface unit. The 320 GB hard drive ships with DataOverwriteSecurity (DOSS) for compliance environments. Buyers' biggest regret: under-speccing the finisher. The base machine has no built-in stapler — if you need stapled output, budget $2-6K for the SR4080, SR4120, or SR4130 booklet finisher up front. Requires a dedicated 220-240V/20A outlet.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

FAQ

Savin MP 6503, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (888) 574-5120 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

Yes, the Savin MP 6503 ships with a starter toner cartridge that yields approximately 43,000 pages at 6% coverage. The replacement toner model is Savin Type 6110D (841332), which is a high-yield cartridge designed for high-volume printing. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The Savin MP 6503 is a high-volume production-class printer with a speed of 65 ppm and a monthly volume capacity of 15,000-50,000 pages, while the Savin 9033B is designed for smaller workgroups with a speed of 33 ppm and a monthly volume of 5,000-12,000 pages. The MP 6503 features a larger 10.1" touchscreen, higher paper capacity (expandable to 8,300 sheets), and advanced security features like DataOverwriteSecurity. The 9033B is more compact and suitable for departments needing tabloid output but lacks some advanced features like color scanning. For small offices, the 9033B may be a more cost-effective choice.
The Savin MP 6503 is designed for large workgroups or central reprographics departments with a monthly volume of 15,000-50,000 pages, which may exceed the needs of a typical small business. Its high speed (65 ppm) and advanced features are better suited for high-volume environments. Small businesses with lower print volumes may find it more cost-effective to consider a smaller, more compact printer.
No, the Savin MP 6503 is a monochrome-only printer designed for high-volume black-and-white printing. If you need color printing, consider alternatives like the Savin MP C6503, Ricoh MP C6503, or other color multifunction printers in the Savin/Ricoh lineup.
