Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Lanier LW324 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a small AEC, surveying, or print-shop bench that needs occasional D-size and E-size prints — under 1,000 pages/month.
  • You want a multi-roll machine so you can keep both 24-inch and 36-inch paper loaded without swapping.
  • You're replacing a small plotter and your project pipeline is steady but light.
  • You print mostly final drawings, not constant draft check-prints — 4 ppm matches that workflow.
  • You need an in-house option to stop paying $4-7 per outsourced D-size print.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 800-1,500 sq/ft a month — slow but the machine handles it; just don't expect to plot a 50-sheet set during a meeting.
  • You scan markups occasionally — the optional scanner module works, but plan on the budget hit.
  • You're OK with 600 dpi for line drawings — fine for CAD, less ideal for grayscale renders.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print more than 1,500 D-size pages monthly — at 4 ppm and a 20,000-page rated duty, you'll outgrow this fast. Look at the LW411 or LW5100.
  • You need fast first-print — 34 seconds for the first plot is real, especially when you're running back to grab a single drawing.
  • You need color — this is mono only. Get an HP DesignJet or Canon imagePROGRAF for color CAD/GIS output.
  • You don't have an AutoCAD or print-flow setup — the LW324 expects you to drive it from CAD software through a controller, not a generic Windows print queue.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Lanier LW324 is a low-volume mono wide format laser MFP — the slowest unit in the Lanier production lineup at 4 D-size pages per minute. It's built for small architecture, engineering, or surveying offices that print under 1,500 sq/ft per month and want to bring plotting in-house without buying a true production plotter. The chassis is 22 x 42.5 x 25 inches and weighs 235 lb, with one or three roll positions standard. Resolution is 600 dpi, first plot lands in 34 seconds, and the rated duty cycle is 20,000 pages per month — that ceiling tells you who this is for. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet and USB; AutoCAD/Revit/Bluebeam print flow runs through an optional controller. Scanning to PDF or folder needs the add-on scanner module. The thing buyers regret: assuming the 4 ppm rating doesn't matter. It does — when you have a deadline and 30 sheets to plot, 4 ppm is 7-8 minutes for the set. If your firm prints big drawing sets weekly, step up to the LW411 (8 ppm) or LW5100 (10 ppm) and don't look back.
