Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Sharp BP-70C55 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a busy department of 40-100 people that needs in-house A3 color and prints 12,000-25,000 pages a month.
  • You need first-page-out under 4 seconds black / under 5 seconds color — the C55 is fast enough that walk-up users don't queue.
  • You want a 20-amp circuit in the wall — this model uses 110-127V/20A and 1.92 kW, planned at install time.
  • You scan stacks of contracts daily — 280 ipm single-pass duplex via the 300-sheet DSPF actually keeps up with one heavy user.
  • You want enterprise-grade security (WPA3, TLS 1.3, optional Bitdefender antivirus, optional MX-FR12UL data security kit) for legal, medical, or government work.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 8,000-12,000 pages a month — the machine handles it without breaking a sweat; you'll just lease it longer.
  • You need finishing (staple, hole-punch, booklet) — the BP-FN11/13/14/15/16 console finishers bolt on, but each adds 30-90 lbs and 8-30 inches of width.
  • You don't have 20A service at the install location — you'll need an electrician before delivery; the 31/36/45 ppm models run on 15A.
  • You're replacing an older Sharp MX-series — operators adapt to the Advanced Series touchscreen in days, but the menu structure has been redesigned.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print under 5,000 pages a month — overkill. The BP-70C31 or BP-70C36 saves money up front and runs on a 15A circuit.
  • You don't print 11x17 — get an A4 MFP like the MX-C507F or step down to the smaller chassis; the A3 capability and floor space go to waste.
  • You need a 15A circuit only — this is 20A; the 31/36/45 ppm Advanced Series runs on 15A.
  • You want a small footprint — this is 24 x 26 x 34 inches and 192 lbs, floor-standing only.
  • You're under 5 users — even at this speed, you won't justify the price; a desktop MFP makes more sense.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Sharp BP-70C55 is the second-fastest A3 color MFP in the Advanced Series, built for busy departments of 40-100 people that print 12,000-25,000 pages a month and don't want users queuing at the machine. It prints and copies 55 ppm in both black and color, with first-page-out at 3.7 seconds black / 4.8 color from the platen — fast enough that walk-up jobs feel instant. The 300-sheet single-pass DSPF scans at 280 ipm, the 10.1" tilting touchscreen with retractable keyboard ships standard, and the chassis runs on 110-127V/20A drawing 1.92 kW (plan an electrician visit if your install location only has 15A service — the 31/36/45 ppm models in this series stay on 15A). Standard 650-sheet capacity (one 550-sheet drawer plus 100-sheet bypass), expandable to 6,300 with the split tandem and 3,000-sheet LCC options. Cloud connectors for Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive, Box, and Dropbox come standard. The thing buyers regret: ordering this without a finisher when their workflow already includes stapling. The BP-FN11 inner finisher is a $1,500-ish add that gets ordered three months later, often at retrofit pricing.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 4 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Sharp machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Replaced an older model with this BP-70C55 and the speed improvement is noticeable. Haven't had any major problems with it, and toner costs are reasonable compared to what we were spending before."
  • "Been using this Sharp for our office for about a year now. The color output is solid and the finishing options like stapling and hole punch actually work reliably. Toner costs are reasonable too."
  • "It handles our print volume without issues and the network setup was straightforward. My only complaint is the touch screen can be a bit slow to respond sometimes, but it's not a dealbreaker."
  • "Upgraded from an older Sharp model and this thing is noticeably faster. The copy and scan functions work great for our small printing business, and the paper tray capacity is helpful."

FAQ

Sharp BP-70C55, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (888) 574-5120 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

Yes, the Sharp BP-70C55 ships with a starter toner cartridge. The starter black toner yields approximately 40,000 pages, while the starter color toners (cyan, magenta, yellow) each yield roughly 24,000 pages at 5% coverage. Replacement toner cartridges are the high-yield BP-NT70 series (BP-NT70BA for black, BP-NT70CA/MA/YA for colors). When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The Sharp BP-70C55 is designed for larger departments (40-100 people) with higher print volumes (12,000-25,000 pages/month) and offers faster speeds (55 ppm) compared to the BP-70C31, which is built for smaller workgroups (10-30 people) and prints at 31 ppm. The BP-70C55 requires a 20A circuit, while the BP-70C31 runs on a standard 15A circuit. Both models feature a 10.1" touchscreen, 300-sheet DSPF, and expandable paper capacity up to 6,300 sheets. For small offices with lower print volumes, the BP-70C31 is a more cost-effective choice.
The Sharp BP-75C55 is ideal for busy departments printing 12,000-25,000 pages monthly, but it may be overkill for small businesses with lower print volumes (under 8,000 pages/month). Its 55 ppm speed and 20A power requirement are better suited for larger teams. Small businesses with lighter needs might consider the Sharp BP-70C31 or other commercial options.
Yes, the Sharp BP-70C55 is a color MFP that prints and copies at 55 ppm in both black and color. It uses high-yield BP-NT70 toner cartridges for vibrant, high-quality color output.
