Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C478iFZ is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run a small workgroup of 5-25 people that needs a desktop A4 color MFP with built-in stapling and offset stacking — no tabloid required.
  • You print 1,500-5,000 pages a month and routinely send out collated, stapled multi-page documents.
  • You scan stacks of contracts, invoices, or intake forms regularly — the 100-sheet single-pass DADF runs 200 ipm duplex.
  • You already standardize on Canon imageRUNNER and want a finisher-equipped device that drops into uniFLOW Online without retraining.
  • You want Super G3 fax and the full enterprise scan destination set (SMB, FTP, WebDAV, IFAX) standard.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print 5,000-7,000 pages a month — the 50 ppm engine handles it, you'll just go through T04 toner faster.
  • You don't strictly need stapling — but you wanted finisher headroom for future jobs. The base finisher tray adds 900-sheet output capacity, which helps with longer print runs.
  • You're replacing an aging Canon iR C1225iF or similar A4 desktop MFP — the 10.1-inch touchscreen takes a few days to learn but operators adapt fast.
  • You only have room for one optional cassette — the iFZ supports one optional cassette versus two on the iF (the finisher takes the second slot).
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You print over 8,000 pages a month — step up to the C568iFZ (60 ppm) or move to the A3 C3800 series for higher monthly headroom.
  • You need 11x17 tabloid output — this engine maxes out at 8.5 x 14 (Legal). Look at the C3800 or C5800 series for A3.
  • You print under 500 pages a month with no stapling needs — this is overbuilt for that. A desktop imageCLASS MFP costs less.
  • You need booklet making, hole punching, or saddle stitching — the inner finisher only does corner/double stapling and offset. Step up to the C3800/C5800 series for full finishing.
  • You don't have an authorized Canon dealer relationship — T04 toner and uniFLOW configuration go through contract channels.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C478iFZ is the inner-finisher variant of the C478iF — same 50 ppm A4 color engine, same 10.1-inch touchscreen, same iR-ADV DX workflow, but with a built-in stapling finisher that bumps output capacity from 400 to 900 sheets (400 base tray + 400 upper + 100 lower). Built for workgroups of 5-25 users that need a desktop A4 color MFP and routinely send out collated, stapled multi-page output. It prints and copies up to 50 ppm in both black and color (39 ppm Legal), with a 5.1-second first copy out (black) / 5.8 seconds (color), and scans at 200 ipm duplex via the 100-sheet single-pass DADF. Standard paper capacity is 650 sheets; the iFZ supports up to one optional cassette (versus two on the iF) to reach 2,300 sheets — the finisher footprint takes the second slot. The 10.1-inch color touchscreen runs the full iR-ADV DX workflow with uniFLOW Online, Hot Folders, and scan-to-everything. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus Wi-Fi standard. Super G3 fax is built in. Security is the standard iR-ADV DX stack: McAfee Embedded Control, FIPS 140-2 HDD encryption, TLS 1.3, SIEM integration. The thing buyers regret: paying for a finisher and only using it for occasional staple jobs. If you don't routinely send out 5+ page collated documents, the iF version (no finisher) is cheaper and you free up the second cassette slot.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 5 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Canon machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "We use this for our small marketing agency and it handles our color printing volume without breaking a sweat. The finishing options are solid and the touchscreen interface is intuitive enough that our newer staff don't need constant support."
  • "Good machine overall for a busy office. Copies and scans are reliable, though the learning curve on the security features took longer than I expected. Toner costs are reasonable if you buy in bulk."
  • "Running this at our legal firm and the document handling is impressive. Network printing works smoothly and the job tracking features help us bill clients accurately."
  • "This has been solid for our print-heavy business. The finishing options are helpful and the network integration was straightforward to set up."
  • "It's a capable workhorse but the toner costs add up quick. Image quality is consistent though and we haven't had major reliability problems in the two years we've had it."

Yes. The MFC-L2759DW ships with a high-yield 4,500-page starter toner cartridge, which is roughly 3 to 6 months of toner for a typical small office. Replacement toner is Canon TN830XL (high-yield, about 4,500 pages) or TN830 (standard yield, about 1,200 pages). When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C478iFZ is the refreshed version of the MFC-L2750DW with updated firmware, a longer-life drum, and an expanded starter toner yield (4,500 pages versus 3,000). Print speed, automatic 2-sided print and scan, and connectivity are identical. For most small offices the 2759DW is the better long-term value because of the larger included toner.

Yes, for small offices printing under about 2,500 pages per month. It's fast at 36 ppm, handles auto 2-sided print and scan, supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and has a 50-page document feeder for multi-page scans. If you regularly print more than 5,000 pages per month or need color, step up to a commercial-grade multifunction printer — see our commercial printer options.

No. The MFC-L2759DW is monochrome (black and white) only. It cannot print color. If you need color, look at the Brother MFC-L3750CDW or a commercial color multifunction printer like the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX or Konica Minolta bizhub series.

Canon includes a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty on the MFC-L2759DW when purchased new from an authorized reseller. 1-800 Office Solutions is an authorized Canon reseller. Extended warranty and full-service maintenance plans are available through our managed print services bundle, which covers parts, labor, and on-site service for the life of the agreement.

Yes. Free delivery is included on every Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C478iFZ order shipped within the continental United States. Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days and arrive within 2 to 5 business days. Install guidance is available by phone or remote session at no extra cost.
